After months of speculation about the true parentage of Diana of Themyscira, Wonder Woman star Chris Pine seems to have confirmed that she is indeed the daughter of Zeus, king of the Greek Gods. Pine, who plays Steve Trevor, suggested this in an interview with Entertainment Weekly where he discussed Gal Gadot’s improv skills.
“She’s delivering lines like ‘My father is Zeus’ — s— that is just so ridiculous. And she has to say it with a straight face, with a certain amount of innocence and earnestness. I get to react like any human being would to hearing something as ridiculous as that. So I had easy,” he shared. Speculation was rife that Wonder Woman was Zeus’ daughter after previous reports indicated that the Amazons were created by him to combat the threat of Ares, and Pine’s statement here appears to confirm that.

Previous footage showed her stating that she was Hippolyta’s daughter, while the Queen of the Amazons herself stated that Diana “must not know what she really is,” hinting that the secret could be her true lineage. In the Justice League trailer, she is seen displaying powers (around the 1:43 mark) that seem similar to lightning generation, and — given that she’s wielding the Godkiller sword that Zeus conjured to fight his brother — her role now appears to be aligned with her New 52 origins from DC Comics, which wrote out her history of being mystically shaped from clay.
Directed by Patty Jenkins from a script from Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns, Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Lucy Davis, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui and David Thewlis. The film opens June 2.
