Two Great Interviews Surface today with Apple's Angela Ahrendts and Jimmy Iovine

 

Daniel Roth is the editor of LinkedIn, based out of LinkedIn’s NYC offices in the Empire State Building. In his role, Roth oversees the global editorial team that handles curation of breaking insights on LinkedIn, creation of original articles and videos and the cultivation of new and top contributors across the site. Today Roth’s ‘Influencer’ interview series continues with Apple’s SVP Retail Angela Ahrendts about their new ‘Today at Apple’ services and focus on the retail “experience.’

 

Roth notes on his LinkedIn page that “The retail world’s withering— except for Apple. The company’s stores keep attracting customers (sales were up 18% last quarter alone) and employees (retention’s an insane 87%). So, very Apple like, it’s taking this period of strength to remake the product.”

 

 

Apple’s Music Chief Jimmy Iovine

 

Yesterday Music Business Worldwide extensively interviewed Apple Music’s chief Jimmy Iovine. The report starts at the beginning of Iovine’s humble beginnings as a gopher over at New York’s Record Plant Studios. After leaving high school without a plan, Iovine thought he would be destined to work on the docks of New York like his father. Instead he got a break working with Roy Cicala, John Lennon’s go-to engineer. That led to Iovine working on a series of great albums like Springsteen’s Born to Run and Stevie Nicks Bella Donna.

 


Shiting gears the report went on to state that “The fact is that ‘free’ in music streaming is so technically good and ubiquitous that it’s stunting the growth of paid streaming. Two things have to happen: free has to become more difficult or restricted, and the paid services have to get better.”

 

This is one of Iovine’s passions, to see that free streaming music dies off so that new music artists will be able to survive. Free Streaming is hurting young artists and Apple is trying to put pressure on the industry to stop this harmful practice.
