A Twitter user has shared an incredibly helpful post to help people diagnose a stroke and get help as quick as possible.
Sharing a story from a now-deleted Tumblr post, Frankie Marie stressed the importance of knowing the signs and acting fast.
Ways to perk yourself up without spending thousands of pounds on coffee every year
The story in the pictures details the experience of Tumblr user mscaptains, whose friend passed away after having stroke.
Their friend had a fall at a party, but said she was fine afterwards. They were unaware at the time, but she’d actually had a stroke, and was taken to hospital. She died the next day.
According to the story, the doctor who treated her said if this had been recognised within three hours of the initial fall, she could have been completely fine.
If you’re not sure how to know when someone’s had a stroke, one way is to think about the first three letters: S T R.
Recognising a stroke
S – Ask the person to SMILE
T – Can they TALK? Ask if they can speak a simple sentence.
R – See if they can raise both arms
If they can’t do any one of these, call 999.
Strokes can happen to people of any age, even those who have no existing health issues.
It can cause someone’s face to drop on one side, for them to struggle speaking, and to lose full mobility.
While they aren’t always life-threatening if caught early, strokes can be fatal. That’s why it’s extra important to call 999 as soon as you see these signs.
It could save someone’s life.
