PHOTOS: £1.2 million Edwardian house in Three Bridges on sale
AN EDWARDIAN house in Three Bridges offers everything you could ever want in a dream home, from large rooms, high ceilings and fantastic entertaining space to a great location just seven minutes from the mainline station and close to the town’s main shopping area.
Woodcroft has been home to Anthony and Tracey Finlayson-Green for the past 18 years, and they have loved every minute of living there.
“I still get a buzz from the house,” says Anthony. “Whenever we get to the gates and see the front again after having been out, we always think ‘wow, we’re so lucky to live here’.”
The couple and their three sons, who have now left home, moved to the house from Maidenbower.
“I just wanted a house with high ceilings and bigger rooms. Woodcraft was built in 1901 and has all the space we wanted, although it needed a lot of work doing.”
Over the years this has included converting the loft into a master suite, putting on a new roof and re-pointing the walls.
“We kept the front of the house very traditional but made the back contemporary for daily living,” Anthony adds. There is much going for the property in addition to the space and character it offers.
He said: “The entertaining rooms are fantastic, the garden is very private and we overlook a park that can’t be built on.
“The schools in the area are really great and the house is in an excellent location, near Three Bridges station, close to the motorway and five minutes’ drive from Gatwick. We’re not on the flight path either; we rarely hear planes.”
Woodcraft comes with plenty of character and a number of period features throughout. Electric iron gates open to a paved private driveway that leads to the front of the house.
A porch opens to the entrance hall where there are stairs to the first floor, under stairs storage, and a cloakroom.
The living room has double glazed bay windows overlooking the front, and a feature fireplace, while the dining room, also with bay window overlooking the front, features an open feature fireplace and wooden flooring.
The kitchen/breakfast room includes a range of eye and base level units, an inset sink with mixer taps, a built-in oven/grill/microwave, a fridge freezer, a dishwasher and a ceramic electric hob. There is also a well fitted utility room with patio doors to the rear garden.
The dual aspect breakfast room includes a wood burner and French doors to an orangery that has double glazed windows and doors overlooking the rear garden, under-floor heating, electric roof windows, bi-folding doors to the patio and LED lighting on a suspended ceiling.
On the first floor are four bedrooms, all with wash hand basins, and a family bathroom that includes a white suite corner bath, and a shower cubicle.
Stairs lead to the master bedroom with an engineered oak floor, a refitted en suite that includes a single shower cubicle and a dressing room that could be used as a sixth bedroom.
And to the back of the property is the well established landscaped rear garden, which has an area of decking and a large patio providing plenty of space for outside entertaining. The rest of the garden is lawn with flowerbeds, mature trees, plants, shrubs and borders.
The property comes with a large, detached single garage that has an up-and-over door, light and power plus space and plumbing outside, at the rear, for a hot tub.
Anthony feels the house would best suit professional people who might want to work from home or who want to raise a family in a lovely house.
He explained: “One of the families who lived in the house before us raised 14 children here!”
He and Tracey, who has recently retired from working as a nurse at St Catherine’s Hospice, have another home near the Lake District and now want to downsize to somewhere in the Crawley area.
And he hopes the next owners of Woodcroft will feel the same about the property as his family does.
“We’ve always felt this is our home,” he said. “There is a warm feeling to it that everyone loves. To us, it will always be just home.”
