Danny Willlett may have been stealing the show at Augusta on Sunday, but in the world of social media it was his brother who was making waves.

As Danny was pulling off one of the most dramatic wins in the history of The Masters, Paul Willett was going viral with a hilarious insight into the process.

The champion’s brother, who describes himself as an ‘Author. Teacher. Inexperienced Father,’ was clearly on the edge of his seat throughout the final round, and the result was a string of funny messages.

The tweets began with a joke about the length of time Jordan Spieth, who was four shots clear of Willett before a remarkable back-nine collapse, took over his putting.

‘Spieth is lining up his putt,’ tweeted Willett. ‘If I’m quick I can get a beer, go to the toilet, and paint the spare room b4 he hits it.’

Then, as his brother climbed the leaderboard, Willett admitted ‘I’m not keeping it together,’ and put out one tweet that just said ‘Please. Please. Please. Please. Please.’

Then came the fascinating insight into what it is like to have a sibling at the top of professional sport.

‘If the boy does what he should, I will be able to say I’ve shared a bath with a Masters winners – brilliant,’ he wrote, before threatening, while his brother was playing the last, ‘3 putt this & you might as well stay in America’.

As the tension grew once Willett had completed his round, his brother begged Spieth not to launch a late recovery, and joked that the Sheffield-born golfer should refuse the Green Jacket because it would ‘make you look fat.’

After the victory was confirmed Paul’s celebrations started in earnest, with champagne and ‘passion fruit liqueur’ apparently involved, before he finally finished his commentary with the line: ‘ Speechless. I once punched that kid in the head for hurting my pet rat. Now look.’

As his tweets began to be shared widely, the teacher also joked about all the attention he was receiving: ‘When I’m too tired to teach a good lesson tomorrow, and some kid spits at me, I’m just gonna smile and say ‘I won Twitter’ *drops mic’
