Since supporting her husband in his campaign to be the Republican presidential candidate, Melania Trump has been noticeably quiet on social media.

But yesterday, the 45-year-old wife of Donald Trump took to Twitter to wish everybody a ‘Happy Easter’.

The former model, originally from Slovenia, last used social media on July 4, when she wished her followers a ‘Happy Independence Day.’

But taking to Twitter yesterday after a seven month absence, she posted a picture of herself, wearing a fitted white dress with a blue print, alongside several Easter characters.

She captioned the snap ‘Happy Easter’, which was seen by her 86,000 Twitter followers.

Her use of Twitter is in stark contrast to her billionaire husband, 69, who is prolific on social media, tweeting his outspoken views to his almost eight million followers.

Mrs Trump’s tweet comes after her husband reacted furiously to a conservative super PAC backing Ted Cruz, a Republican rival, which used an advert picturing her on social media.

It came after the ad, circulated on social media, shows the former model in a nude 2000 GQ photo shoot with the words: ‘Meet Melania Trump, your next First Lady. Or you could vote for Ted Cruz on Tuesday.’

Trump responded to the ad in characteristic bombastic fashion on Twitter.

‘Lyin’ Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin’ Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!’, he wrote.

Days later he posted an unflattering picture of Cruz’s wife Heidi, next to a glamorous shot of Melania.

He captioned the tweet: ‘These images are worth a thousands words.’

And it prompted a furious reaction from Cruz, who immediately hit back, tweeting: ‘Donald, real men don’t attack women. Your wife is lovely, and Heidi is the love of my life.’

She added: ‘So we are not worried in the least. I have one job in this campaign and that is to help Ted win this race. I think it is the easiest job in the world.

‘All I have to do is speak the truth about what I know about my husband and our family.’

Her husband backed her up, saying she was ‘not scared one iota’ of Trump.
