Customizing your Tumblr for AMP

The #1 Affiliate Marketing Training Portal

What is AMP?  AMP is an open-source protocol intended to better optimize pages on mobile web. This allows your blog to load faster on mobile in places such as Google Search.

Cool, but what does this have to with customizing my Tumblr? You can adjust your settings to customize how your Tumblr looks when it’s loaded as an AMP page.

Will it use my custom theme? No, it actually draws on your blog’s appearance settings, not your blog’s theme. To edit your blog’s appearance, pull up your blog in the mobile app and tap the palette icon at the top of the screen. Tap on things to change stuff like your background color or text color.

In a web browser, click the account icon at the top of the dashboard, choose “Settings,” and select your blog from the menu on the right. Here you’ll see the “Edit appearance” button at the top.

For more information on Appearance Options, click here.

Can I disable it? Sure. To disable it, you’ll need to edit your blog’s theme in one of two ways:

  • Click the Edit Theme button on the top right corner of the web view of your blog (yourblog.tumblr.com).

  • Under the account menu at the top of the dashboard, click the gear icon to visit your settings. Choose your blog from the menu on the right, then click “Edit Theme.”

Then, from your theme’s customize page, scroll down and click on “Advanced options,” and look for “Enable Google AMP.” A blue toggle switch means it’s enabled, while a grey one means it’s disabled.
